Movies are often based on books. Not this time. Design a book cover that is based on a movie. DO NOT use an image of the actor/s. Try to find or create imagery that captures the essence of the movie without using the actor’s picture.

This book cover I made is for the Twilight Zone episode, “The Midnight Sun”.
Since 1985, the American Library Association (ALA) has tried to sell reading books as cool by showing celebrities reading their favorite books. You can read about the history of this promotional campaign here. Experiment with this tradition, introduce a celebrity with a book who hasn’t been recognized yet, but should be. Or use the poster you create to poke fun at a public figure, or do something else all together. have fun.

Instead of Cartooning myself, I cartooned the doctor from the episode of the Twilight Zone called “Eye of the Beholder” the assignment was: Remake you (or someone you know and love) into a cartoon character. Draw you on a piece of paper, on a tablet, take a photo and use software to convert it to comic book style, or use online programs to create a cartoon version of your character. Extra bonus points if you can come up with an origin story or add comic book elements to your final image. I tried to make this image as comic book like as possible.

assignment details: http://assignments.ds106.us/assignments/one-story-four-icons/
The assignment is to reduce a movie, story, or event into its basic elements, then take those visuals and reduce them further to simple icons, four of them. Write your blog post up but do not give away the answer, let people guess! The challenge is to find the icons that suggest the story, but do not make it so easy.
