Write a story from the point of view of your favorite food, but don’t say what it is. Make us guess.
I’m not made by just anybody. I’m made and packaged in a factory, then sent out all over the world to make kids to the elderly very happy. I’m probably the most popular food in the world. I’m a special blend of ingredients that forms a delicious snack. I’m a little nutty. I’m cut and imprinted with the name of my maker after I’m blended and placed in a mold. The reason they mold and cut me a certain way is so you can share me with your friends, but that rarely ever happens. Then, I sit and bake for awhile with all my millions of friends surrounding me. I first get a silver foil placed around me, then a sleeve that surrounds that. Then I’m ready to go, but don’t leave me in the sun, I won’t taste as good.
When I first saw the Week 1 page for ds106, I was intrigued but also fearful of the challenges and expectations of this course. I have my associates in IT, but I have never, thus far, used design software, such as Photoshop, to the extent that I did in the past week. I experienced a variety of emotions, from excitement when finding an assignment that celebrated my love for animals, quirkiness, and creativity, like “cat breading”, color splashing a photo, etc., to the frustrations and questioning of myself,” Will I ever be able to make an animated .GIF?! Why is this so frustrating?! Why did they make Photoshop so difficult!? How the hell am I supposed to do that!? What the F*$#!?”
There were many times I hit a wall during the week, surely due to my limited experience in design related software applications, but when I came over that wall, I felt enlightened. During last week, I had hit a wall with the animated .GIFs assignment. I was trying to use MPEG stream to make the .GIF and the file that I was attempting to import from YouTube would not download into MPEG…anyways, I consulted my teacher Mr. Groom and he was able to resolve the problem. Long story short is, once you get over that wall of frustration that stops you from achieving what you set out to do, you will feel like you can actually overcome something and make some progress. The sense of relief I felt from finishing the .GIF assignment was monumental in helping me attempt other challenging assignments.
I also was very impressed by the assignments in the Visual and Design assignment banks. I feel as though the creativity expressed here was so genuine and inspiring. Creativity is an excellent example of human expression when it is honest and real, and I really felt that sense when perusing the submissions.
Well, I guess that’s all I got to say today, sorry if there were grammatical errors or whatsoever, I’ve been called a comma fiend before….

Take any person, thing, or animal and apply a cartoon character head to it. Be creative!
This is a compilation of an owl and the red angry bird! Enjoy!
Can you tell what movie this is?
assignment details: http://assignments.ds106.us/assignments/one-story-four-icons/
The assignment is to reduce a movie, story, or event into its basic elements, then take those visuals and reduce them further to simple icons, four of them. Write your blog post up but do not give away the answer, let people guess! The challenge is to find the icons that suggest the story, but do not make it so easy.

This is an old ad that I used Color Splash on!
Color splash is a technique to emphasize details- you remove all color from a photo, and then restore original color to a single object, e.g. a green apple on a table. Think of the Girl in the red dress from Schindler’s List.
Adapt a famous artist’s work to change or reinforce its possible message.
